Aldosterone-Producing Adrenocortical Carcinoma without Hypertension

چکیده
Although adrenocortical tumors are common, adrenocortical carcinomas are rare. Moreover, aldosterone-producing adrenocortical carcinomas without hypertension are exceedingly rare, with only two previously reported cases.

Aldosterone-producing adenoma and other surgically correctable forms of primary aldosteronism
Surgically correctable forms of primary aldosteronism are characterized by unilateral aldosterone hypersecretion and renin suppression, associated with varying degrees of hypertension and hypokalemia. Unilateral aldosterone hypersecretion is caused by an aldosterone-producing adenoma (also known as Conn's adenoma and aldosteronoma), primary unilateral adrenal hyperplasia and rare cases of aldos...
متن کاملAdrenocortical Carcinoma Mimicking Pheochromocytoma: A case Report and Review of Literature
Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is an uncommon malignancy originating from cortex of adrenal gland. The most common pitfall in diagnosis of ACC is to distinguish it from pheochromocytoma. Here we report a 62-year-old hypertensive man with presentation of dyspnea. The laboratory data showed an increase in urine cortisol and renin with a mild increase in aldosterone, but decrease in adrenocorticot...

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the DNA methylation levels of steroidogenic enzyme genes in aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA) and the effects of gene mutations in APA on the DNA methylation levels. DNA methylation array analysis was conducted using nonfunctioning adrenocortical adenoma (n=12) and APA (n=35) samples, including some with a KCNJ5 mutation (n=21), an ATP1A1 mutation (n=...
متن کاملShould all Hypertensive Patients be Screened for Primary Aldosteronism?
Primary Aldosteronism (PA) is defined as non-suppressible hyper secretion of aldosterone by adrenal glands, with consequent suppression of plasma renin activity. It was described by Jerome Conn in 1955 [1]. It is said to be an under diagnosed and important secondary endocrine cause of hypertension, and is one of the few potentially curable causes of hypertension using both medical and surgical ...
متن کاملMacrolides selectively inhibit mutant KCNJ5 potassium channels that cause aldosterone-producing adenoma.
Aldosterone-producing adenomas (APAs) are benign tumors of the adrenal gland that constitutively produce the salt-retaining steroid hormone aldosterone and cause millions of cases of severe hypertension worldwide. Either of 2 somatic mutations in the potassium channel KCNJ5 (G151R and L168R, hereafter referred to as KCNJ5MUT) in adrenocortical cells account for half of APAs worldwide. These mut...
